Introducing Jacky Lee, Senior Product Designer
Introducing Jacky Lee, Senior Product Designer at Koordinates.
Hi, I'm Jacky, a product designer at Koordinates. My job is to be an advocate for our users and ensure a great user experience throughout the product.
I have a background in architecture, and was an early user of the Koordinates platform. It was incredibly useful for finding relevant open data for my master's thesis. Even during my first job as an architectural graduate, I frequently used the platform to source relevant datasets for projects.
After moving away from architecture, I worked as a product designer for other tech startups, where I was actively involved in designing, testing and iterating on ideas with the users. I also began to help organise Dribbble meetups in Auckland, where creatives come together once every few months to learn from one another.
Since joining Koordinates in April 2016, I’ve been working with the rest of the design team on a major re-design of Koordinates.com, which we’re going to be refining and building on in the years ahead. To test and refine our ideas, and tackle any hairy design problems, we use various design tools from wireframing to interactive prototypes to ensure that what we're building makes sense to our users.
The spatial industry has proven to be a fascinating field to work in because it directly impacts our lives and the world we live in. However, spatial professionals often spend far too much time and resource sourcing relevant data for their projects. The data that is available is often hard to search, appraise and use, despite the effort and resource invested in making it open in the first place.
This is where Koordinates comes in. It has been rewarding working at Koordinates so far. It's amazing to work with a bunch of talented individuals, all striving towards the same mission: To make it easier for everyone to find, share and use our planet’s authoritative geospatial data
When I'm not designing I enjoy learning about development and aspire to bridge the gap between the two. You can also find me at jackylee.co.
