It’s been a busy year so far for the team here at Koordinates. Over the last few months, we’ve launched our new marketing site, released a slick new ID system and introduced support for geospatial PDFs. Our ever-expanding team has been beavering away at a bunch of other projects, which we’ll be announcing over the next few months, including some changes to our UI.

What unites these projects is a simple goal: to make it much easier for anyone to find, access and use authoritative data about our planet - regardless of their technical skill-level or experience. This is all in advance of bringing on board some exciting new publishers, and taking the data on our platform to a much greater number of users.

The latest project is our new help site, which we have creatively called Koordinates Help, and can be conveniently found at help.koordinates.com.

Content-wise, the purpose of the new site is twofold. First, we want to make it easier for new publishers and users to get started with Koordinates. To this end, we’ve created a series of Getting Started guides; you can think of them as Koordinates 101, and we hope they’re useful for anyone who wants to publish or access authoritative data on the platform.

Second, we want to give more experienced users a better understanding of the rich functionality of the platform. Over the last six years, the engineering and development teams at Koordinates have built some great tools, and (along with a UI refresh coming soon) we want to make this more visible, so that users have an even better experience on our platform.

Over the next six months, we’ll also be adding a range of detailed educational resources, to support publishers looking to share and publish their authoritative data, and to up-skill users looking make the most of authoritative data in their projects.

Design-wise, we want the content to be the main focus of the entire help site. We believe the main purpose of this site is to bridge the knowledge gap between working with the data on our platform and our users, so we wanted to strip back a lot of noise and just focus on helping users find whatever it is they need. This is why the first thing users will see is a search box, which is intended to help them find exactly what they need from our help documentation.

Below the search box, we show three top level categories - PublishersData Users, and Developers - which you can use to browse the range of content on the site. Finally, if you still can’t find what you’re looking for, we have a “contact us” form at the bottom of every page, so use that to give us a nudge to improve and expand our documentation, or to submit a support ticket.

Please note that our new site will replace the existing help site at support.koordinates.com, which will be exclusively used for customers to submit and manage support requests.

Koordinates Help will be quickly evolving over the next six months. If you have suggestions of anything you would like us to cover, please get in touch!
